

Edmund “Ed” Charles DeVeaux passed away February 20th, 2015, at age 91. He was born August 10th, 1923, in Jersey City, New Jersey, to Edmund Jerome DeVeaux and Estelle Settle. He was the second oldest of 12 children.
He served his country during World War II and in the Korean War. He was also one of the early groups of men trained as Tuskeegee Airmen, specifically serving in the 302nd Fighter Squadron. After more than 20 years of service, he retired at the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.
Moving to Danbury in 1968, he became employed by Perkin Elmer as a logistics and maintainability engineer. While at Perkin Elmer, he worked on the Hubble Space Telescope project, responsible for developing the plans for transporting the telescope and mirror about the country for its assembly and launch. In 2011, he was honored with other surviving engineers and scientists who worked on recently declassified Hexagon Program, a top secret spy satellite program responsible for visualizing, mapping, and recording the former USSR's secret military locations. This was a key initiative of The Cold War.
He was a committed member of the community. His activities being: Chairman of City of Danbury Planning Commission, the NAACP, the Knights of Columbus attaining the 4th degree (highest), an active member of St. Gregory the Great Church and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) - Troop 9 at St. Gregory’s. He held many leadership positions in BSA, beginning with Cub Master (Cub Scouts), then Assistant Scout Master for the Boy Scout Troop. Eventually, he also served as the District Chairman for BSA. In addition, he served on the Board of Directors of the then, Pope John Paul II Center.
Edmund was pre-deceased by his first wife, Elease and his eldest daughter Jacqueline. He is survived by his wife Barbara, their children Margarethe and Charles (Lauren) DeVeaux, his daughter Charlene (Cecil) Hudson, his grandchildren Keith (Saprina) Kerner, Paul (Tricia) Kerner, Carmel (James) Harrell, Shivaughn DeVeaux-Pearson, his 7 great grandchildren and his 3 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Gerard DeVeaux, and sisters: Jacquelyn C. DeVeaux, Estelle Waters, Marylyn Callaway-DeVeaux, Frances Showers, Jessie Showers–Moore.
