Edmund (Ed) C. Ricketts passed away peacefully on October 30, 2014 at the age of 86. Born on June 23, 1928 in New Haven CT, where he spent most of his early life, later relocating to Stamford, and then settling into Danbury for the last 36 years. Ed worked for Pitney Bowes in both Stamford and Danbury as an Inspector, retiring in 1990.
He is survived by his loving wife Margaret Eyer Ricketts, his three daughters: Barbara Kostecki of Danbury, Carla Petrillo and husband John of Brookfield, and April Brodeur of Waterbury. Three step children: Armen Stauffer of Danbury, Vartan Yeranos of Concord, CA, Vartouhi Kempe of Brookfield, CT as well as eight grandchildren: Christina, Cheri, Joseph, Michael, Diana, Karla, Adam and Paige, 11 great-grandchildren. Three nieces: Dawn Tyler and husband Will of Hebron, Gail Clark of Wallingford, and Marcia Pilch and husband Steve of South Carolina. He is predeceased by his only sibling, sister Marjorie Clark of Southington.
Ed was a polite, quiet man who found relaxation in music, books, watching and feeding birds, and coin collecting. He formed an annual tradition sharing gifts of minted coins with the entire family every Christmas, down to the youngest great-grandchild.
Ed’s passion was gardening and he established the former Community Garden located on Middle River Road in Danbury. Ed was an avid gardener ever since his first job at Woolworth’s in the Garden Department. Ed earned a Master Gardener Certificate from the Connecticut Agricultural Extension. In his retirement he expanded what he grew so that he could share his green thumb with friends, neighbors and a few local greenhouses. He also grew a variety of fruits on the Danbury property he shared with his wife Meg for the last 30 years.
Ed’s family would like to thank all of his caregivers, nurses, and physicians who gave Ed wonderful care.
