Eleanore Chassey Blackman

She was born May 7, 1923, Fall River MA, daughter of the late Arthur Chassey and Albertina A. Chassey.

She is survived by her loving family and close friends who will feel her loss terribly, sisters Annette Cote and Albertina Yvette Pilch and husband Paul Pilch; nieces Nancy Floridia, Jeannine Jennings and her husband Christopher Jennings, Celeste Zotto and her husband Charles. Nephews John Kevin Chassey; Joseph Sardinha, wife Karen, Thomas Sardinha and wife Noelle; Roland Cote, wife Yuki; Robert Cote and wife Marie; John (Jack) Cote and wife Norma and Peter Cote. Numerous great nieces and nephews. Longtime and cherished best friend Janice Starr who was by her side every day during her illness.

Eleanore was predeceased by her husband of 70 years Arthur Blackman, her three brothers Arthur Chassey, Wilfred Chassey and J. Roland Chassey.

Eleanore primarily spent her childhood in New Rochelle NY and then moved to Cranston RI. Upon high school graduation her family moved to Bethel CT.

During World War II Eleanore worked as a Nurses attendant in Washington D.C. and returned home to Bethel. Eleanore worked at Leahy’s Fuels, Inc. in Danbury CT until she retired. During this time Eleanore was a coordinator for the Danbury Fair until it closed in 1981. Through a work colleague, Eleanore met and married Art in 1946. He was a WWII veteran. Together Eleanore and Art built their home in Bethel where they resided for over 70 years. She and her husband were avid world travelers, enjoyed camping and fishing and cross-country skiing. She was also volunteer at Danbury Hospital for many years.

Throughout Eleanore’s married life she and her husband Art loved and spoiled numerous dogs including her beloved Yorkshire dog named Suzie 16 years old who passed two months prior. If you knew Aunt Ellie, you knew she loved her dogs like children. They were the luckiest dogs to have her as their caretaker. She would do anything for them.

Four years ago, Aunt Ellie decided it was time to make a move and become a resident of Glen Crest independent living in Danbury CT. On behalf of Eleanore’s family, a special thank you to the wonderful staff and all her dear friends at Glen Crest for their kindness, loving care and friendship so freely given to our Aunt.

There will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday May 6th at Saint Mary Church, Dodgingtown Road, Bethel.

Burial will be in the Center Cemetery, South Street, Bethel following the funeral mass.
