Eleanore J. Klejna, a long-time resident of New Fairfield, Connecticut, died October 10, 2017 at the home of Elaine and Stephen Hicks, her daughter and son-in-law, also of New Fairfield, who had been caring for her for the last year. She was the wife of the late Sylvester J. Klejna. She was the wife of the late Sylvester J. Klejna.
Eleanore was born on April 16, 1919 in the Bronx, NY, the eldest of four daughters of Joseph and Stefanie Borowski. Eleanore attended St Adelbert's Roman Catholic School in the Bronx and graduated from Julia Richmond High School in Manhattan. She married Sylvester J. Klejna on June 6, 1943 and they lived in the Bronx for several years, raising their son Dennis and daughter Elaine. They were active members of St. Frances de Chantal Parish. During this time, Eleanore worked in the Queens, NY office of Avis Rent-a Car and was also a leader of her daughter's Girl Scout Troop. In the 1960's, the family moved to New Fairfield to live permanently in their summer home in Candlewood Knolls. They soon became members of St. Edward the Confessor Church.
Eleanore worked for many years and made many friends at Leahy's Oil Company in Danbury. She also was very involved in charitable work at St Edward's, participating in the Ladies Guild and she was one of the original members of the Sewing Group. Eleanore always greeted everyone with warmth and a smile. She was immensely proud of her family and she will be deeply missed by them and her numerous friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her son, Dennis, of New York City; her daughter and son-in law Elaine and Stephen Hicks of New Fairfield; her grandson, Christopher, and his wife, Erin, of Lenox, Mass.; granddaughter Elizabeth McAvoy and her husband, Brendhan, of New Fairfield, her great-grandchildren: Jack and Kane Hicks and Emily and Andrew McAvoy; her sister, Helen Nabozna, also of New Fairfield; her sister-in-law, Ladis Nowak and husband, Edward, of East Hampton, Mass. and numerous nieces, nephews and their many children. In addition to her parents and husband, Eleanore was preceded in death by her sisters Mae Roginski and Tess Kawejsza, their husbands Henry Roginski and Walter Kawejsza and Helen Nabozna's husband Edward, all of New Fairfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Friday, Oct. 13, 2017 at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield. Interment will follow in Mt. View Cemetery, New Fairfield. Friends will be received from 4pm-7pm on Thursday (today), Oct. 12, 2017 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
