Aunt Elsie was my mother’s younger sister. Having lost my mother at an early age, Aunt Elsie was more than an Aunt for me. She was more like an older sister for most of my life. We talked on the phone every couple of days, sharing laughter and sometimes gripes. We could tell each other anything. One of her greatest gifts to me was keeping my mother’s spirit alive with her stories and family history.  I still expect the phone to ring and her saying, “Where are you?  Call me. I’m home.”  And now she’s home.

I first met my mother-in-law while her son Peter and I worked for Lighthouse Camp for the Blind in South Jersey one summer. I immediately noticed her warmth, sense of humor and the similarities in her and Peter's personalities. In the over 43 years that I have known her she cared deeply about not only immediate family members but extended family members as well. She was the one who kept in touch  regularly with  everyone. She was a very positive person even in very difficult and trying times. I have the most important person in my life, her son Peter because of her. I will always miss her and be grateful for the time I had with her.

Elsie was my great aunt, my mother’s aunt. Living in Miami, FL as a child, I was introduced to the culture and excitement of New York through my summer stays with Aunt Elsie and Uncle Pete.   I remember the fascination of walking up the brownstone, stepping into the marble foyer, and having to push the button to get into the house.  I remember Aunt Elsie with her witty and sarcastic humor always making me laugh and feel loved. Days at the beach with Aunt Elsie commenting that one day all her freckles would unite to form a fabulous tan. Tasting lemon ice for the first time. Peeking out the front window with Aunt Elsie, giggling, to see who Ann Marie was talking to on the stoop. Stories, stories, stories.  She always had stories to tell about our family and it was a wonder that, even in her later years, mom and I always commented that we left a visit hearing a new one.  I will miss her terribly, but I thank her for gifting us with her love and sense of humor.  ❤️

Elisa (Elsie) , my mom will be missed. Most of my knowledge of my ancestors come from her wonderful memory. She remembered what gifts she received from her sisters on Christmas when she was little.  Her sister Josie gave her a book ( Little Women) and Mattie gave her a baby doll that wet ( Betsie Wetsy). I learned from her the importance of the little things in life. 

I was always amazed how she was always there for family and friends  when they were ill or were going through hard times. She had a major influence on the career I chose.

My Aunt Elsie/Elisa was my mother's baby sister. They were very close. My mom died when I was very young, but I could always count on Aunt Elsie to tell me stories about my mom's life. She had such a great memory and for me she was the family historian. She also had a terrific sense of humor. She loved to talk, especially about family. She was a loving soul! I will love and remember her forever.
