He was born in S. Providence, RI to Florette (La Porte) and Gerald J. Roper Sr. on May 25, 1937. He was married to the love of his life and wife, Barbara (nee Bylicki) for 33 wonderful years. He is also survived by his Cousin Mary Chisholm, sister-in-law, Halina Schafer, brothers-in-law Ron and Rick Bylicki, several nieces, nephews, godchildren, as well as his daughter, Robin Antonelli, 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Jerry was member of the US Army and served from 1957 to 1966. He was in the 82nd Airborne and proudly drove tractor trailer trucks throughout Europe. Jerry enjoyed several careers afterward as Director of MIS/VP of MIS for several NY / NJ major corporations, VP of recruiting for several, local companies in CT and finally served in several positions for the US Census Bureau. His zest for life was apparent in everything he did. His laughter and ability to tell a joke to fit the situation made everyone he knew, or just met, instantly love him. He enjoyed his friends and family by sharing his passion of cooking, making wine, a sip of single malt Scotch and puttering around the house “fixing things” for himself and others, as well as helping Barbara in her many gardens. In addition, he “religiously” served as an usher at St. Edward’s 4:30 Mass. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him. He leaves a large whole in the hearts of all who cared for him.Special thanks to all the Doctors, Nurses and dedicated Staff of the Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital for the outstanding care they gave to Jerry and Barbara during his treatment.
