She was born in Hipstedt, Germany on January 1, 1937 to Heinrich Gehlken and Katarina Stelling. Hilde came to the USA in 1957 and worked for Sears before she met Horst Kanning and got married on March, 5, 1961 in Brooklyn, NY.
Besides her husband, Horst, Hilde is survived by her three children: Walter, Kevin, and Andraya. Her grandson: Kevin Francis Kanning. Her sister: Ann Reinstrom. Her brother: Harry Gehlken.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014 at 7pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT with the Rev. Eric A. Wismar, officiating.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Thursday from 6pm until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers a contribution in Hilde’s memory made to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 2 Colonial Rd., New Fairfield, CT 06812 will be gratefully appreciated. Hilde will be missed by all her friends and family.
