James Nicholas Cummings, 75, of Heritage Village, Southbury, CT, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, at his home after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Marilyn Erb Cummings for 52 years.
Born in Boston, MA, Jim attended Holy Name School in West Roxbury, MA, and graduated from Wilton High School in Wilton, CT, in 1970 before earning his B.S. in Business Administration from Bentley College in 1974.
Jim’s career with MetLife, Inc. began in the 1970s in New York, eventually taking his family on a journey through Warwick, RI, Glastonbury, CT, and Fort Lauderdale, FL, before they finally returned to New York. These frequent moves sparked a lifelong passion for travel. Jim drove across the country twice and enjoyed numerous family vacations, European adventures, and cruises with Marilyn.
An avid sports fan, Jim loved everything from cheering on his favorite Boston teams to coaching his daughter and son in basketball and Little League. His competitive spirit extended to his own life as he stayed active in various intramural softball and basketball leagues. Whether he was golfing, playing and refereeing tennis, or competing in the Heritage Village bowling league, Jim truly found joy in the game.
Jim was a gifted storyteller who will be deeply missed. Whether drawing from his Boston youth or his world travels, he had an engaging tale for every occasion that never failed to entertain.
