James Edward Matthews, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, entrepreneur, and faithful Catholic, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 14, 2025, surrounded by his wife, children, and their spouses.
Born in Yonkers, New York, James (affectionately known as Jim, Jimmy, Jimbo, or Dingbat) was the son of Mary (Crossan) and Clyde Matthews. He grew up in Yonkers and went on to meet the love of his life, Mary. While raising a family and working full time, he completed his degree at Manhattan College. After many years with IBM and other companies, Jim followed his entrepreneurial spirit and founded his own computer consulting firm, JML and Associates, in the 1980s.
Above all, Jim will be remembered for his deep devotion to Mary, his beloved wife of 57 years, and their family. Together they raised four children—Jennifer (Steve Parkis), Patrick (Sharon), Craig (Joanne), and Daniel (Karen)—and were blessed with nine grandsons: Sean, Eric, Matt, Joshua, Thomas, Colin, Ryan, Tyler, and Dylan. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Matthews, along with many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Clyde, and his brothers, Larry and Joe. Jim’s Catholic faith was a steady foundation throughout his life. A longtime parishioner in Danbury, he lived his faith with humility, kindness, and joy. His generosity, his love of travel, his fondness for a good laugh, and even his enjoyment of time spent at the casinos will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.
Services to honor Jim’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, from 3:00–6:00 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
A Funeral Mass will follow on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church, 104 Main St., Danbury, CT, with interment immediately after at St. Peter Cemetery, 71 Lake Ave. Ext., Danbury, CT.
A luncheon will follow the services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter School, 98 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810, or to Catholic Charities of Fairfield County at www.ccfairfield.org
