
Janet Helen McGill, 96, of Washington Depot CT and formerly Heritage Village, Southbury, passed away peacefully on February 23, 2015. She was born in New York City on May 14, 1918 to Winfred Murphy and Ethel (Reavey) Murphy. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James McGill, her son, James McGill, Jr, daughter, Jeryl (McGill) Read, and sister, Patricia Colcord.
Janet grew up in Kew Gardens and Forest Hills, New York. She was a vocalist with her future husband’s band – the Jimmy McGill Orchestra - during the late 1930’s. After marrying she lived in Port Washington, Stony Brook and Ridge, NY before moving to Connecticut in 2002. Janet enjoyed summers spent boating on Long Island Sound with her family and friends, as well as winter ski trips to Vermont and New Hampshire. She and James traveled to many European countries and enjoyed cruises. Her many other interests included reading, painting, knitting, cooking, and going to the theater. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family and many dear friends.
Janet is survived by her sister, Martha Watson, son, Jeffrey McGill and his wife, Catharine Sweeney, grandchildren, Melissa McGill, Brad McGill, Jennifer Read, Heather McGill, and great grandchildren, Joshua Schoger Jr, Henry Quinn, Lila Quinn, Dylan McGill and Aidan McGill.
