Joan was born on August 27, 1932, to the late Herman and Ethel Steuernagel. Joan was originally from Scarsdale, NY, where she met her love and husband, John; they were married for 60 years before his passing in 2012. Together, they were instrumental in establishing the Eastchester Blue Devils Pop Warner Football program, where she was elected their first woman president. She and John loved to travel; they especially enjoyed their cross-country road trip and their journey to Italy.
Joan is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Donna Kelly; Debbie and Dave Solomon and Lisa and Don Glaser. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Matthew and Jen Solomon, Lindsay Glaser and Nick Boretsky, and Megan Glaser; a great-grandchild, Anella Boretsky; and several nieces and nephews.
While Joan worked many years as a medical transcriptionist, her greatest joy was her family. She was an excellent cook and, in recent years, shared her special recipes for Christmas dinner with her granddaughters. She instilled in her children and grandchildren the importance of family and enjoyed telling stories about family history to make sure her grandchildren knew about their past.
