

John A. Ross, 77, of Danbury, CT passed away on Sunday at Pope John Paul II Center for Health Care in Danbury after an extended illness. He was the husband of Betty Jane (Chuvala) Ross. They were married for fifty years. Born in Danbury on Nov. 22, 1934, he was a son of the late Frank C. and Mary Stavola Ross. He attended St. Joseph School in Danbury and was a 1952 graduate of Fairfield Preparatory School.
He received his degree from Bridgeport Engineering Institute. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, John served with the US Air Force and received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. A longtime employee with Eaton Corp. in Danbury, formerly Consolidated Controls, he retired in 2001 after 42 years as an Electrical/Field Service Engineer, in which he took great pride. John was a dedicated volunteer with Danbury Athletic Youth Organization and active with their fund raising efforts, serving as commissioner of Bingo for nearly fifteen years. He was a member of the American Legion and the Catholic War Veterans. John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
He cherished time spent with his daughters and their families. He loved to participate in the lives of his grandchildren, supporting their academic and extracurricular activities. He looked forward to his yearly visit to Cape Cod with his wife and extended family.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Joseph, and two sisters, Florence Ross and Cecelia Colombatto. Besides his wife, survivors include his five daughters: Mary Tokarz and her husband, Michael, of Poughkeepsie, NY. Rosalyn DePaoli and her husband, Douglas, of New Fairfield. Elizabeth Pappas and her husband, David, of Brookfield. Florence Ross of Danbury. Sharon Dewitt and her husband, Ray, of Danbury. His grandchildren: Jonathan and Joseph Tokarz, Julianne and Jaclyn DePaoli, Kaylee, Jeremy and Cierra DeWitt. His brothers: Michael Ross and Frank Ross. His sisters: Rose Marie Ross and Rita Finaldi. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10am at St. Joseph Church, Danbury. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
