John was born in Bronx, NY on April 3, 1953, to the late William C. and Marie E. (Morrissey). John attended Danbury schools and graduated from Danbury High School Class of 1972.
John had a long and successful career in warehouse operations as a tow motor operator with RR Donnelley (formerly Danbury Printing and Litho), where he retired from after 40 years.
John is preceded in death by his parents William C. and Marie E. (Morrissey) Roy, his sister Barbara (Roy) McKenna, brother-in-law Laurence McKenna, and sister-in-law Rosemarie (Lipari) Roy.
John is survived by his brother William C. Roy of Southbury, his niece Laurie Maxwell of Danbury, his nephew Kevin McKenna of New Fairfield, his nephew Phil Roy (Kim) of Lafayette CO, his niece Emily Fritz (Glenn) of Southbury, and his grand nephews and nieces Brady and Nina Fritz, and Tyler, Justin, and Lindsay Roy, and several cousins and friends.
In his younger years, John enjoyed coaching sports locally and loved to talk about it. He would see those he coached around town, and they always remembered him. John was a member of the New Fairfield Jaycees where he had many friends. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in New Milford with his brother Bill and a member in New Fairfield.
John loved being an uncle and he was dedicated to his nieces and nephews and his great niece and nephew, creating lasting memories. He always supported them as a proud uncle in all they did, loved watching them play sports and, enjoyed being part of their daily lives, and always made sure they knew how much he loved them.
John was a great listener and always there to lend a helping hand, or to play a prank and say it was the “mouse.” John had an enthusiastic sense of humor and had the best full body, laugh which showed such innocence and joy. He started painting over the past few years and he was amazing, creating beautiful paintings his family will treasure forever.
John was a generous, kind, and caring soul who supported and helped his family. He was there for his sister and brother at all different times in their lives. He loved his parents and was a dedicated son going on trips with them and caring for them in their later years.
John enjoyed fishing, taking trips, playing cards, painting, spending time with family, watching football, and rooting for the UConn basketball teams.

The family will receive friends for a Memorial service on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 11:00am - 1:00pm at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury.
