Laura was born on November 7, 1961 in Bronx, New York to Peter and Antoinette (Zangrilli) Curioli. She graduated from Saint Catherine’s Academy in 1979. After high school, she attended Saint John’s University in Queens, New York, obtaining her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration.
Laura’s first love was fashion, and she started working at Bloomingdale’s on 59th Street in Manhattan when she was 16 years old as seasonal help and later became fulltime. Laura loved that job and remained there until the early 90s. In 1999, she began working at Ann Taylor, where she cultivated a network of dedicated clients who would make appointments with her so she could style and shop for them. She loved that job and stayed for almost 15 years, developing a strong group of friends who she remained close with even after she left. After Ann Taylor, she joined Marriott as an Event Specialist where she helped coordinate group travel and events. She had strong supportive colleagues there and remained employed until she passed.
On June 11, 1983, Laura married the love of her life, Peter Nemeth. Peter and Laura first met during summers spent on Candlewood Lake with their families. Neither remembered exactly when they first met because they were so young. Together they raised a daughter, Alexandra.
Laura was an incredible person, full of life and love for everyone around her. She was endlessly warm and loved to laugh. Laura exuded elegance and liked to be put together for every occasion. In her opinion, you could never be overdressed. Spending time with her family and friends gave her the greatest joy whether at home or on vacation. She loved to spend long hours talking, cooking, or snuggling together on the couch watching one of the many classic movies she adored. She loved snow skiing in the winter, water skiing in the summer, and never passed up the chance to visit a historic home. Her happy place was the South of France and she was lucky enough to visit again this past October with her family. Laura had a profound faith in God that guided her through life and her battle with cancer. She endured more than she ever let on and more than most people could ever try to handle and did so with grace, love, and endless hope.
Laura was preceded in death by her mother, Antoinette, and her father, Peter L. Curioli. She is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Peter Nemeth, her daughter, Alexandra Nemeth, her son-in-law Dmitry Slavin, a granddaughter due in April, and her brother Peter J. Curioli, along with many dear cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Laura’s passing leaves us with a hole in our hearts and she will be missed terribly by all who knew her. We will carry her with us always and do our best to make her proud.
