
Lena T. (Vichi) Keane , 97, of Danbury and Florida, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, January 9 at Pope John Paul Care Center in Danbury. She was the wife of the late Vincent H. Keane. Lena was born in Brewster, New York on September 18, 1915, a daughter of the late Alfred and Erselia Vichi. She worked at the Hotel Green and Davis & Geck in the Purchasing Departments. Lena assisted for many years at The Curb Package Store in New Milford, CT and Le-Ann’s Package Store in Brookfield, CT. Lena and Vincent moved to Florida in 1970 living in Fort Lauderdale and Davenport. She moved back to Danbury in March of 2011 with residency at Pope John Paul beginning in May. Lena and Vinnie traveled throughout the United States visiting various historic sites. They also made sure to connect with the local casinos. On her 97th birthday in September, she welcomed the trip to Mohegan Sun!
Lena is survived by her niece, Vickey Hickey of Danbury, her nephews: Levi Newsome of Danbury, Edward F. Hickey of Panama City Beach Florida, Edward Vichi of Naples, Florida, and Frank Vichi of Brewster, New York and several great nieces and nephews. She also leaves her best friend, Rita Ginty of Danbury, special friends: Don and Sylvia McKean, Michael Barrett, Helen Hoffstaetter, Corinne Sporre, Kate Lamson and her many friends in Florida.
Besides her parents and husband, Lena was predeceased by her four sisters: Ermenia Newsome, Emma Hickey, Virginia Vichi, of Danbury, Lela Yerks of Florida and her two brothers: Edward and Frank Vichi of Brewster, New York.
Special thanks to her Drs. Anne and Kathleen Mauks, her friend and attorney, Gerald Daly, the Administrator of Pope John Paul: Ellen Casey, her Social Worker, Judy Sheridan, members of the Pastoral Care Department: Fr. Paul Merry and Sr. Frances Smalkowski, on Two South: Kathy, Darius, Trudy, Jennifer and so many silent do gooders who cared and greeted her with a smile and Sol Amor Hospice.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday January 12th at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Danbury. There are no calling hours. Interment in Saint Peter Cemetery, Danbury will be private.
