Born on November 11, 1962, the eldest daughter of the late Louis Smith Sr. and Florence (Lobraico) Smith, Maria was a devoted loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was a cherished staff member of the Access School for almost 20 years. Known by all as “Ya” , her biggest loves in life were softball, the Boston Red Sox, and most of all, her family. She could be found most days either surrounded by her grandchildren, in her gardens, laying out in the sun, or shopping around at local antique stores and tag sales. Maria was never afraid to get her hands dirty, always finding a new project to work on while jamming out to classic rock and roll, or one of her true crime podcasts. When she wasn’t with her family, she would often be found tending to her many plants, or finding new ways to decorate her home. One of her biggest thrills in recent years was participating in bingo with her daughter Stefania, sister Kim, and wonderful family friends.
Maria is survived by her loving husband of 35 years Randal Bogues; children Stefania (Brian) Kinzig, Lindsay (Jeremy) Bogues, Haley (Tim) Bogues, and RJ Bogues; her favorite sister Kim Hamed; sister-in-law Marie Perry; Brother-in-law Mark (Bethe) Bogues; Brother-in-law Dean (Pat) Bogues; 7 grandchildren Sabrina Bogues-Brennan, Emma and Aria Kinzig, Sofia Bogues, Noah Webster, Vincent and Lucille Lorkiewicz; along with many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, Maria was predeceased by her brother Louis Smith Jr., and brother-in-law James Hamed.
Maria’s life will be celebrated with friends and family at the New Life United Methodist Church in New Fairfield on June 29, 2024 at 10:30am. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Regional Hospice of Danbury or Company “A” New Fairfield Fire Department.
