Mary Edna Devine

Mary Edna Devine recently of New Milford, died Monday morning. She was born in Danbury in 1924, to the late Francis and Molly Dwyer. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, John J. Devine and her brother, Francis Dwyer.

As fulltime wife and mother of eight children for nearly ninety-two years she lived in Danbury and Wallingford and Sunrise, FL, prior to moving to New Milford. She was predeceased by two daughters; Kathleen d’Evengee of Danbury and Marita Christian of Pembroke Pines FL. She is survived by Kevin Devine and his wife Janice, of Greenville South Carolina; John J Devine Jr. and his wife Dorothy, of Trumbull; daughter Sharon Rivers and her husband Robert of Sarasota FL; James Devine and his wife Diane of Prospect; daughter Eileen Benthal and her husband Steve of Jamesport NY; and daughter Kay Roche and her husband Matt of New Milford.

Family was always extremely important to her as was her faith which kept her strong and at peace with life’s travails. Often in person, or via phone, Facetime or Skype, she kept in contact with many of her 20 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Over her long life she was always proud of her extended family and loved them all very deeply.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter Church, Danbury, on Friday morning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Peter Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The family would like to thank the staff and fellow residents of Chestnut Grove for all the friendship, kindness and concern they showed our mother and the happiness they brought to her final years.
