

Michael was born in Bronxville, N.Y., son of Edward P. Smith, of New Fairfield, and the late Maureen J. Smith. He lived in New Fairfield for much of his life, and for several years he also lived in both Irving, Texas and New York City. He was a graduate of Immanuel Lutheran grammar school and Immaculate High School. Michael graduated from Western Conn. State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration in accounting. Michael obtained his certified public accountant (CPA) and chartered financial analyst (CFA) accreditations, and was most recently employed as an account manager at Morgan Stanley. Michael was also an accomplished musician and songwriter. He had a gift for music and was a pianist from an early age. As an adult, he was a guitar player and co-founder of Danbury’s own The Mighty Ploughboys, and was a contributing songwriter on their albums, “Hat City Irish,” which was released in 2009, and “Mighty Ploughboys,” which will be released in late January, 2012. He was also a contributing guitar player for Connecticut’s rock cover band, Jimmi Jack. Michael also prided himself on being a singer and songwriter, and composed and recorded songs as recently as October 2011.
In addition to his father, he is survived by his brother, Timothy P. Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., and his sister, Heather E. Smith of New York, N.Y. He is also survived by many beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and a godson, Mason Katz.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Edward the Confessor Church, New Fairfield, on Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery, Danbury. Friends and family may call at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, on Friday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.
