Patrick Joseph Mannion, 65, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 17th, surrounded by his family. In 2015, Patrick was diagnosed with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) and received a double lung transplant in 2017. While lifesaving, the transplant eventually led to pervasive cancer that began in 2021. Patrick, with his wife Kathy of thirty-eight years always by his side, led a courageous battle, always maintaining an extremely positive attitude.
Patrick was born and raised in Danbury, CT, and attended Danbury Public Schools before enrolling at Henry Abbot Technical High School. He went on to become a project manager at various construction companies before becoming the Director of Facilities Management for the Franciscan Friars of the Atonement in Garrison, NY. Despite a demanding career, Patrick took on various home improvement jobs on the side, including building a home for his family in New Milford, CT. His experience and unwavering willingness to help others made him everyone’s first call when they had a question about how to fix something.
Patrick spent his life playing sports and, as a senior at Abbot Tech, was the captain of the baseball team during their 1977 season. He was inducted into the Abbot Tech Hall of Fame in 2019. His leadership continued and he could be found on the sidelines coaching his sons in various sports. In addition to his passion for sports, Patrick enjoyed painting, hiking, exploring Cape Cod, and spending time with his friends, many of whom he had known for decades. He spent many years as a volunteer firefighter at Danbury’s Citizens Hose #6. After his transplant, he became an advocate and mentor for other patients, inspiring so many to keep fighting and remain hopeful.
In addition to his loving wife, Kathy, he is survived by his sons: Christopher and his wife, Emily; and Bradford and his wife, Natalie; and his grandson, Cole. Also surviving are his siblings: Pamela (Patrick) McHenry, Jo Ann Mannion, and Joseph (Violeta) Mannion as well as eight nieces and nephews and many cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at St. Joseph Church, 376 Main St., Danbury, CT.
Friends will be received from 5:00pm-8:00pm on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
