

While a “Danburian” at heart, Richard was born in Rahway, NJ on June 2, 1933 to Eva Chapman Beck and Howard H. Beck. A Korean War Vet, and a member of the Korean War Veterans organization in Danbury, CT. Richard was an airplane mechanic proudly serving the US Air Force, and a member of the military band, while stationed at Burtonwood Air Force Base in England. He was a self-taught musician who spent his life teaching himself a variety of musical instruments, even trying the ukulele at the age of 82.
Richard was a lifelong member of the Masonic Lodge, he was a brother of Union Lodge #40, Danbury, Eureka Lodge #83, Bethel, and most recently, having relocated to Southbury, King Solomon Lodge #7 in Woodbury. He worked for Con Edison for 25 years as a cable splicer and, after retiring, spent time working at Union Trust Bank in Danbury before starting a second career with the City of Danbury as a Permit Inspector until his retirement.
Richard was preceded in death by his loving wife, Elaine Harding Beck who passed in 2001 and his brother, Howard, who passed in 2016.
He is survived by his son Richard (Chandi), granddaughters Chaya and Aliyah, and daughter Cynthia. He is also survived by his former son-in-law, David Moore, who, in recent time, became a close friend and co-caregiver. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Marion Beck, nephew Doug, and nieces Ginny Beck-Curran and Barbara Rieger.
Calling Hours will be Thursday, January 12, from 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St. in Danbury, CT. A brief memorial service will take place at 7 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will take place on Friday, January 13 at Umpawaug Cemetery Redding, CT.
