

Richard S. Leahey, 83, of Danbury, CT passed away peacefully on December 31, 2012. He was the husband of Ethel M. Clarke Leahey. Born in Danbury on April 13, 1929, he was the son of the late Cornelius and Virginia Gillotti Leahey. Mr. Leahey was a veteran of the US Marine Corps and was a past commandant of the Hat City Detachment of the Marine Corp. League. He was an insurance agent for 37 years with John Hancock as well as the Ashmore Agency in Danbury and a past president of the Danbury Association of Life Underwriters.
Active for many years in the Republican Party, Mr. Leahey served on the Town Committee and was party chairman in the early 70’s. Mr. and Mrs. Leahey were avid motorcyclists and RVers. They traveled extensively in Europe and the US. Mr. Leahey was also a free-lance cartoonist and a Justice of the Peace for 25 years. He served as a Connecticut State Chairman and New England Regional Director of the Retreads International Motorcycle Club. Mr. and Mrs. Leahey also wintered in Fort Myers, FL.
Besides his wife of 64 years, survivors include four daughters: Donna McIntosh and her husband, Ralph, of Newtown; Susan Leary and her husband, Richard, of Leland, NC; Carol Thorne and her husband, John, of New Milford and Elizabeth Fescoe and her husband, Randall, of Newtown. His eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Scott, Marci, Sean, Michael, Mark, Kate and Meghan. His seven great-grandchildren: Nicholas, Ella, Caden, Owen, Samantha, Kinley and Aedan.
Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday at 10am at St. James Church, 25 West St., Danbury with the Rev. Dr. Joseph Krasinski, Rector, officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery, New Fairfield, CT. Friends will be received on Wednesday from 5pm to 8pm at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury. Contributions in Mr. Leahey’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, Suite 1802, 370 7th Ave, New York, NY 10001 or to the charity of one’s choice.
