Richard and Marita married in 1957, and lived in the home they built in Danbury for their entire wedded lives. Together they logged thousands of miles in their camper truck crisscrossing the United States and Canada, visiting friends and family, and exploring national parks and enjoying the natural wonders.
They also traveled overseas in their retirement over 20 times visiting many places in Europe, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand. Richard spent many hours in his workshop, building and repairing everything and anything. When he was out and about, he always wore his signature red hat.
Richard, the eldest of three children, was born on October 21, 1932, to Carl and Gertrude Schulz in their home on Griffing Avenue, Danbury, CT. He attended Immanuel Lutheran School and attended secondary school at Henry Abbott Technical School graduating 1951.
He served as a volunteer fireman in Danbury. He started working in 1960 at Fairfield Hills Hospital for almost 30 years and enjoyed retirement in 1989. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church throughout his life. He also served as Superintendent of the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery and very much enjoyed his church family.
Richard was predeceased by his much loved father, Carl F.T. Schulz, who died January 27, 1989 and treasured mother, Gertrude Marie (Schweitzer) Schulz, who died on June 29, 1993; and his beloved sister, Barbara (Schulz) Haitsch who died on September 13, 2009.
He is survived by his wife, Marita (Gleissner) Schulz; daughter, Karen Adiletta, and husband, Matthew of Bolton, Massachusetts; and son, David Schulz of Berlin, Connecticut; and seven grandchildren: Matthew Adiletta, Andrew Adiletta, Jack Adiletta, Kathryn Adiletta, Ally Schulz, Hannah Schulz, Benjamin Schulz. Also, Richard is survived by his brother Thomas Schulz, and his wife, Nancy of New Milford and many precious nieces and nephews and their children and many, many much loved cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 10:00am at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, 18 Clapboard Ridge Rd., Danbury, CT.
