Rita H. Carter

Rita Heller Carter (Matijasic), age 89, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother "Oma" died peacefully with her family by her side at Danbury Hospital in Danbury, CT on Wednesday, February 4, 2016.

Born March 26, 1926, in Vienna, Austria, to Lora and Ernst Heller. She also lived in the Czech Republic and Germany before settling in Connecticut. She came to the United States with her husband Heinz Matijasic in 1950 with their three very young children.

Rita Carter and her husband opened the area's first Viennese pastry shop called Heinz Bake Shop. The shop quickly became popular with the local residence as well as the summer visitors from New York City on their way to Lake Candlewood. Rita had a great business sense and a passion for fashion and nature.

Survivor's include her children JuttaLopez, Peter Matijasic, Helga Moody, Sylvia Fleischmann, five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be private. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery.
