

Salvatore Anthony Maggio, 93, of Danbury, CT passed away at his home on 06/17/2016. Salvatore was born 09/26/1922, to the late Valentino Maggio and Maria Cacciata Maggio. Salvatore had served in the Civilian Conservation Corp in Oregon, before he joined the army. Salvatore was a veteran of the United States Army, he served in battles in Casablanca and Oran, Algeria, and then in Monte Cassino in Italy, where he ultimately lost his toe due to frostbite and that was the end of his tour. He was honorably discharged March 27th 1945. Salvatore took pride in his family, was an avid reader of history books and enjoyed collecting newspaper headlines, as well as watching old movies and playing Sudoku. He loved his long walks and days at the Elmwood Hall Senior Center of Danbury. His absolute favorite thing to do was to spend time with family as often as possible, and would always tell us to appreciate our good health and to enjoy all the good times we could.
Salvatore is predeceased by wife Vienna Maggio, daughters Lorraine, Linda, and his daughter-in-law Kathy Maggio, along with grandson Robbie Maggio. In addition, Salvatore Maggio is survived by son Richard Maggio, daughter Caroline Maggio and boyfriend John Laudicina of Danbury, CT and son Robert Maggio and wife Linda of Pleasantville, NY, along with his sister Tina Zuniga. Salvatore also leaves behind his grandchildren, Gregory Maggio, Kimberly Maggio and husband Gerard, Joey Dobbins and wife Bridgette, Kyle Maggio and fiance Yesenia and Brandon Dobbins. In addition, he leaves three great-grandchildren Christopher, Nicholas, and Justin Maggio.
Family and friends are encouraged to call at The Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, CT 06810, on Tuesday June 21st 2016 at 5:00 to 8:00 pm for calling hours. A mass of Christian burial will take place on Wednesday June 22, 2016 at 10:00 at St. Joseph’s Church, 8 Robinson Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810.
