Samuel (Sammy) Scaglione went home to be with his Lord and his late wife Peggy (Enright) Scaglione of 60+ years, on October 19, 2024, one week after he celebrated his 94th birthday. He passed in the comfort of home with family–just the way he wanted it.
In addition to his wife, he was a predeceased by his sister, Mary Martucci and her husband, Al, and his beloved brother, Joey Scaglione and his wife, Tessie.
Born in Manhattan October 12, 1930, the son of Rosina (Rossi) Scaglione and Dionizio Scaglione, he was raised in the Bronx. He proudly served in the U.S. Army in Korea, and was honorably discharged at the news of his father falling ill, in order to care and work at the family bakery alongside his brother, Joe, in 1952.
He and his wife, Peggy, were high school sweethearts. They married on October 31, 1954, after he returned from the war. In 1959, Sammy and Peggy moved to Aunt Hack in Western Danbury, for a country life for their daughters, and to open his own Scaglione Bakery on North Street in Danbury. After retiring from baking in 1983, he worked for the City of Danbury Water Department.
Sammy and Peggy made numerous special friends in Danbury. The Scaglione home was always the central meeting place for all their friends and family. Working 6 days a week didn’t stop them from throwing parties and picnics for almost any occasion. In 2003, they moved to Brookfield to “downsize”. Although half the house they lived in for 30+ years, they still managed to fill it with family friends, Sunday dinners, and happy hours on the deck. Sammy will always be remembered as a fun loving, social man (the Counselor), with a great sense of humor. He judged no one, loved, welcomed, and fed anyone. A strong presence of a man, full of advice, and compassion for all God's creatures. His bright smile and zest for life will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
Sammy is survived by three daughters: Christina Fegen of Danbury; Stefanie McArdle and Bill McArdle of Brookfield; Margie Aldrich and husband, Geoff; six grandchildren: Xavier Meticcechia and wife, Kelly, of Danbury; Lauren Panebianco and husband, Frank, of Nevada; best bud, Daniel McArdle; Maria Martin and husband, AJ, of Missouri; Olivia Aldrich and Vivian Aldrich of Brookfield; plus six great-grandchildren: Michael, Vincent, Leo, Eva, Nico, and Raina. He is also survived by sister-in-laws: Sarah Enright of Carmel NY; and Blanche Lewis and husband, Derek, of St. Petersburg, FL.; as well as 16 beloved nieces and nephews and his 4-legged friend, Daisy.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00am on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024 at St. Joseph Church, Brookfield, CT. Burial will be private.
Friends will be received from 4:00pm - 8:00pm on Friday, Nov. 1, 2024 at the Green Funeral Home, 57 Main St., Danbury, CT.
