It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Sanford Dean Kaufman, 92, of Bethel, Connecticut, and longtime resident of Danbury, who left us on January 18, 2026. Sanford was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend, and colleague, remembered for his kind heart, strong spirit, and infectious laughter.
He is survived by the love of his life of 64 years, Connie Kaufman; his son, Michael Kaufman, and wife, Catherine Quinlan; his daughter, Denise Kaufman; and his cherished grandsons: Jack and Joe Kaufman, and Jeffrey and Jordan Gilbert.
An only child, Sanford was preceded in death by his parents, Jerome and Sylvia Kaufman, and his dear aunt, Gloria Cantor. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Sanford was born on August 28, 1933, in Far Rockaway, New York. Growing up by the ocean, he developed a lifelong love for the beach and spent many summers as a lifeguard at Rockaway Beach. It was there, on a Fourth of July weekend at Lido Beach, that he met his bride, Connie. They became engaged by Labor Day and would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on January 21.
Sanford earned his bachelor’s degree from Queens College and graduated from New York Law School. While attending law school, he proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Private First Class from 1955 to 1957. He began his career as a district attorney in Queens, New York, and later joined the firm now known as Jones, Damia, Kaufman & DePaul, LLC, where he practiced law for many years. He was an attorney at law for nearly 60 years.
Known as a “gadget guy” and the son of a mechanic, Sanford loved collecting tools, exploring new technology, and pursuing his passion for photography. He cherished skiing when he was younger, afternoons on the golf course, capturing sunsets through his camera lens, and lively conversations with friends. He treasured opportunities to travel and share new experiences with loved ones. Sanford was a longtime member of Ridgewood Country Club, a place where he enjoyed golf, meaningful friendships, and celebrating family milestones.
Sanford touched countless lives through his humor, dedication, and hearty laughter. He will be remembered for his warm smile, genuine kindness, and unwavering care for others. His legacy of integrity, providing direct advice, and love will continue to inspire his family and friends. Though he is gone, his laughter and warmth will echo in our hearts forever.
