

John proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Following his military service, he joined Commonwealth Electric where he worked as an Electric Distribution Planner for 34 years. John was a dedicated member and former President of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 333.
An avid boater, John loved being on the water and was happiest when fishing or spending time with friends on Cuttyhunk. Following his retirement from Commonwealth Electric, he founded Hayes Marine Service, building a business around his love of boats and the ocean. He was a long-time member of the New Bedford Yacht Club and Buzzards Bay Anglers Club.
John is survived by his longtime companion, Jo-Ann L. Pacheco and her family Jodi, Justin and Karli Andresen; John’s two sons Brian Hayes of Marion, James Hayes and his wife Nicole of Oak Bluffs, MA and his grandchildren Megan, Connor and Lilly Hayes.
Visitation will be held from 4-7PM on Wednesday, December 27 at the Waring-Sullivan Home at Dartmouth, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth. Burial will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at 11:30AM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
