Joseph “Pepere Joe” J. Constant, age 88, of Dartmouth, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 11, 2022 in St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Doris (Poitras) Constant, and loving companion of Violet “Vi” Tracey with whom he shared 23 years together.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Joseph L.R. and Rose (Avery) Constant.
Mr. Constant was a graduate of Holy Name High School and proudly served in the United States Army. He worked for Stop & Shop for 44 years and was a communicate of St. Mary’s Church where he often volunteered delivering food baskets when needed. Joseph enjoyed watching the Patriots, Red Sox games, scratching lottery tickets, fishing, bowling on the green, resting his eyes when he could, and hanging out at Sunrise Bakery. Spending time with his family was very important, especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with whom he adored. He will be deeply missed by many.
In addition to his companion, Violet, is his daughter(step),Cynthia Hudson of Taunton; three grandchildren, Nikki Vella and her husband William of New Bedford, Angela Hudson of Taunton, and Amanda Depin and her husband Matthew of Freetown; four great-grandchildren, Logan Walker, Cameron Walker, McKenzie Depin, and Grayson Hudson, and several nieces and nephews and extended family. He was the father(step) of the late Lorraine Richmond, Eugene Carney, and Michael Carney.
His visitation will be held on Thursday, May 19, 2022 from 8:30am-9:30am in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME AT DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Rd., Dartmouth, MA 02748, followed by his funeral service at 10:00am at St. Mary’s Church, 789 Dartmouth St., Dartmouth. Burial in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
