She married Elwin C. Lavalette in 1942 and celebrated 56 years of marriage before he passed away in 1998. Josephine loved her small home in Padanaram which she lovingly decorated with a designer’s eye. She was an expert seamstress, making custom curtains, bedspreads, cushions, even a wedding dress. She loved her gardens and plantings which thrived near her beloved beach.
In her early years, Josephine worked as a bookkeeper for the Cornell Dubulier and later for Small World Photography. She was a long time member of the South Dartmouth Congregational Church and enjoyed her years as a member of the White Circle.
Josephine is survived by a daughter, Maureen Andujar and her husband Lewis of Eastham, MA and a son, Gary Lavalette and his wife Nancy of Fairhaven. She leaves 4 grandchildren, Christopher Andujar and his wife Melissa of Mooresville, N.C, Craig Andujar and his wife JoAnne of Lake Balboa, CA, Robert Lavalette and his wife Crystal of Acushnet, MA, and Kristy Lavalette of Fairhaven. She is also survived by 5 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Our Lady’s Haven for taking loving care of Josephine during her many years of residency there.
Her funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 6, 2018 at 10:30AM in the WARING-SULLIVAN HOME at DARTMOUTH, 230 Russells Mills Road, Dartmouth, MA 02748. Visitation is prior 10:00 to 10:30AM. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial in South Dartmouth Cemetery.
