
SCOTT, Albert Conrad - Passed away peacefully on Friday December 30, 2016 at age 87 in The Admiral Long Term Care Centre, Dartmouth. Albert was born in Sydney, NS, the son of the late Gerald Scott and Gladys (Dowling, Scott) Harris. He was the first member of his family to attend university, doing so on a Knights of Columbus merit scholarship. He graduated in 1948 with a Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis Xavier University. Immediately after his graduation he began a distinguished career with the Government of Canada, serving in the Fisheries, Health and Welfare, and Consumer and Corporate Affairs departments. His career led him to live and raise his family in Grand Manan, Sydney, Ottawa, Halifax and Dartmouth. The majority of his adult life was spent in Dartmouth where he was an active member of St. Thomas More parish, serving in various capacities including being a Lay Reader and Eucharistic minister. He volunteered tirelessly as a dedicated member of the Saint Vincent de Paul Society as well the Holy Name Society. Albert was also very active in his parish's Scouting movement and served as Akela for many years. Additionally, Albert was an avid bridge player, cottage builder, fan of crime novels, newspapers and the study of Latin. He was deeply proud of all of his children and grandchildren many accomplishments. He is survived by his wife of 67 years Marjorie (McGinnis) Scott; sister, Gwen Vallieres; sister-in-law, Joyce Webster; brother-in-law, Allan Mosher; sons, Alan (Karen Osborne), Stephen (Christine), Philip (Kathleen), Robert (Janice); daughters, Michelle (Gus) Cochrane, Carol (Greg) Burk, Ann-Marie (Leon) LeBlanc, Nancy Lin Scott (Bob Ward); grandchildren, Melanie and Geoffrey Cochrane; Amanda, Nicholas, Conor, Benjamin and Emily Scott; Alec and Ron Scott; Alex and Jillian Burk; Michael and Adam Scott; Dominic and Thomas LeBlanc; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Grace Cochrane; Aidan and Catherine Legge; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Gerald Scott and sisters Colleen Albert and Elaine Mosher; sister-in-law, Joan Scott; brother-in-law Raymond Vallieres. Donations may be made to Saint Vincent de Paul Society, St. Thomas More chapter, or a charity of one's choice. Memorial service will be held at a later date.
