MARTINELLO, Alexandra Campbell (Sandra) - 87 of Dartmouth. It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother and Grammy who passed away on May 1, 2011. Sandra was born in Glace Bay. She was the daughter of the late Dan and Margaret (Nicholson) MacKeigan and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Sandra attended Mount Allison University where she received a Bachelor of Music. While raising a family of eight children she taught music in elementary schools in Cape Breton County and the City of Halifax. Before retiring in 1989 she worked with the Marketing Department of the Nova Scotia Department of Tourism.
Sandra loved playing the piano and leading sing-along’s with family and friends. She was happiest surrounded by her children and grandchildren. An avid reader, Sandra enjoyed discussing current affairs and politics.
She is survived by her children Eric, Wendy, Deborah, Chris, Dana (Brett Clements) of Dartmouth, Ann (Carm DeCicco) of Toronto and Glen (Cindy) of Bathurst, NB.
She is also survived and fondly called Grammy by her grandchildren Bill, Jennifer, Brian, Nicholas, Novella, Megan, Melissa, Robert, Jamie and Johnny and her great grandchildren, Garrett, Deacon, James and Aubri. She was predeceased by her husband Victor, son Timothy and sister Catherine Ruth “Billie” (Jacouzzi).
Sandra was a resident of Oceanview Manor in Easter Passage and received wonderful care by their dedicated staff. Special thanks to the staff at Oceanview Manor.
The family will receive visitors at the Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., in Dartmouth on Wednesday, May 4th from 6 – 8 pm.
