It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Betty on Saturday February 29 2020 at Glasgow Hall, Shannex after a lengthy battle with dementia.
Betty was born in Bluetown, Sheerness, England and later immigrated to Canada settling in Dartmouth. She was the daughter of the late John and Bessie Murphy.
Mum was a gentle soul and her happiest days were time spent with family, especially Sunday dinners. Affectionately known as Nan to all, she had a gift to brighten anyone’s day she came across as she was sure to tell you “you’re beautiful” and “I love you”. In her early years Betty was known for her talented knitting skills and endless supply of baked goods around the house. She spent many years employed at the Halifax Cake Box.
She will be deeply missed by her daughters Bonnie (Marcel) Nadeau, Wendy (Steve) Horswill, Toni (Bruce) Nunn and her son Gary (Jackie) Thomas. Nan also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren Nicole, Matthew, Alicia, Emily, Jason, Shawna and Micheal, along with great-grandchildren Ryan and Allison.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of many years Patrick, and second husband Phillip. She was also predeceased by her brother John and sisters Iris and Mary.
A heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Evan Hall, Lewis Hall and Glasgow Hall for the support and loving care over the years shown to mum.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of A.L. Mattatall Funeral home and a private family Celebration of Life will follow.
