Brenda Anne Pothier

It is with deep sadness that the family of Brenda Anne Pothier announces her peaceful passing on February 26, 2026, at the QEII Health Sciences Centre in Halifax, surrounded by her loved ones.

Brenda was born in Halifax on September 1, 1955. She was the daughter of the late Rita and Bill Newman.

Brenda worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years. She was known for her creativity, warmth, and generous spirit. She loved painting rocks and other handcrafted items, tending to her garden, and finding joy in the simple beauty of growing things. She had a fondness for online shopping and a special gift for choosing thoughtful surprises. Above all, Brenda cherished her family, her sons and especially her grandson, who was the light of her life.

Brenda is survived by her loving partner, Sal Ferla; her sons Gerry Pothier (Renée) and Paul Pothier; and her treasured grandson, Carson Pothier, son of Gerry and Renée.

She will be deeply missed by her brother Kenny Newman (Dawn); sister-in-law Heather Newman; nieces Michelle Newman and Denise Newman (Kenney).

She was predeceased by her common law partner Mark Tufts, her brothers; William (Billy) Newman, Steven Newman, Ronnie Newman, and her sisters; Linda Newman and Karen Newman (Doug Smith).

Brenda’s gentle heart, sense of humour, and loving presence, will be remembered always by her family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society in Brenda’s memory.
