Deborah Louise Mason, loving mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt and friend passed away peacefully on November 10, 2023, at home, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Halifax, on December 13, 1953, she was the eldest daughter of the late Milton and Nancy (Randall) Mason. She graduated from Nursing school in 1973, and enjoyed a 40 year career as a Registered Nurse. She loved being a nurse, but her greatest joy was being a mother.
Deborah is survived by her two beloved sons, Joseph (Sara) Zaun and Stewart (Kristen) Zaun. She also leaves behind her sister Marcienne Mason; nieces and nephews, Elyssa, Jonas (Steff), Zachary (Rebecca) and Liddy (Kyle); great nieces and nephews, Dalilah, Adalyn, Jamie, Anakin and Laurel.
Deborah’s no-nonsense attitude in life was paired with a hot and welcoming cup of tea, bringing people together and fostering a sense of community. She opened her heart and home to people and animals, showing unwavering generosity in providing shelter, love and care. Her home was a symbol of warmth and welcome to all who visited. Her smile was brightest when she had a baby in her lap and a room full of family and friends.
Deborah was an avid gardener and knitter. She found sanctuary in her garden and her knitted creations were a testament to her love and thoughtfulness. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of her two cherished sons, those she cared for in her profession, the cups of tea she shared, the gardens she cultivated and the cozy knitted pieces she crafted with love. She will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will forever remain in our hearts, and her memory will continue to inspire us all.
There will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, donations in Deborah’s memory may be made to Feed Nova Scotia, Nova Scotia SPCA or a charity of your choice.
