White, Dorothy Anita - We are very saddened to announce the passing of our Mom, in the Q E II Infirmary Site, on August 26, 2015 at the age of 95. She was born in 1919 to parents, William and Anita (Baker) Carter of Amherst, N.S. She attended Mount Allison University and Dalhousie University. During the war, she married our Dad, Clifford White and they eventually made their home in Shad Bay. Mom was a bright and interesting woman and a devoted mother to her three children. For many years after becoming a widow, she spent her time in Halifax as a nanny, running various households and endearing herself to many children, who have continued to keep in touch with her. She was involved in her church and her community, and when she moved to Dartmouth, she won the “Senior Volunteer of the Year” award. Mom travelled extensively through Europe with her beloved sister, Kay, who, sadly, predeceased her in 2010. In recent years, Mom was a resident of Sagewood Continuing Care in Lower Sackville. She was very happy there and we thank all of the staff for making her life so pleasant. We know she added her share of humour and wit to Hummingbird and Cranberry Cottage and that she was well loved. We are grateful for that memory. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifford White in 1967; by her grandson, David Piirto; her brother, Harry Carter; her sister, Kathleen Hartt (Kay). She is survived by her daughters Anne White (Bob) and Diane Piirto, and a son, David White (Lorraine); grandchildren Guy Brown, Todd White, Stacey and David Peters; and many wonderful nieces and nephews, who have always taken the time to visit her and survived by her faithful friend, Moe Thomas. Mom has always requested that she be cremated, with no funeral or memorial service, and we will honour her wishes. Donations may be made to Sagewood Continuing Care, Lower Sackville, N. S. Remember her fondly and with a smile, and maybe light a candle on her birthday. Love you forever Mom. Online condolences may be viewed or sent to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
