MCKAY, Earl Daniel “Danny” - It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of one of the very special people ever to grace this earth. Danny fought a very brave and courageous battle against Covid 19 and the many complications which came with it, he fought well but succumbed to those complications on June 19th, 2021 and went very peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.
Danny was born in Halifax and lived his childhood life in Little Harbour until he joined the army at the age of 17. His military career of 20 years was spent in Gagetown, NB and Shearwater, NS with a tour in Cyprus. Danny worked in various positions after retiring from the military.
Danny was one of those rare individuals who never had a harsh or negative word to say about anybody. His kind demeanor, generosity, selflessness and willingness to do good for others will always resonate with all of us who had the privilege and good fortune to know Danny throughout his life. He lived a life most of us would like to aspire to, never wanting or needing anything more than is necessary to be comfortable to live a simple life. Danny was the essence of moderate consumption. Although not one to be in need of material things, he gave freely of himself, the best measure of generosity one could hope for.
Danny was the consummate cook, especially when standing in front of the barbecue, he loved to cater to guests and would not let anyone go home without feeling like they were absolutely full. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. One of his most enjoyable pass times was listening to live music at family gatherings of which there were many.
Danny was predeceased by his parents Dorothy (Horne) and Earl McKay, Father in Law Edward Doucette and Brother in Law Earl Doucette.
He is survived by his ever-loving and devoted wife of 44 years Bonita (Doucette). His two children Michelle (Mike) Hussey and Ian McKay. He is also survived by his pride and joy Grandsons Matthew Hussey and Gregory (Morgan) Hussey. His sister Linda (Peter) Lawrence to whom he had a very special relationship with and their children Eric (Tara) Lawrence and Lisa (Kevin) Gannon. Mother in law Theresa Doucette, Sisters in Law Shirley (Allison) Murphy and Pamela (Scott) Melanson, and Brothers in law Ronnie (Bonnie) Doucette, Chester (LaRose) Doucette, Alden Doucette, Austin (Bev) Doucette and Dwayne (Connie) Doucette. He was also loved by many other nieces, and nephews. A special place in his heart was for his Soul brothers and lifelong buddies Ronny McKay and Herman Heinekamp with whom Danny shared many memories.
We want to thank all of the nurses at the QEII for all of their compassion and exceptional care.
There will be a celebration of life planned for a later date.
