

SPARKS (Cain), Edith – 94, of North Preston, passed away peacefully at the Dartmouth General Hospital Tuesday June 24, 2014. Born in North Preston, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Annie (Cain) Simmonds and was raised by grandparents, the late William and Charlotte (West) Cain. She was a member of Saint Thomas United Baptist Church. She was married to the Late William Sparks for 63 years. She was a loving, caring wife and mother who enjoyed knitting, sewing, cooking and singing. She is survived by daughter, Lavonne (Bonnie), North Preston; foster daughter, Cathy Sparks, Dartmouth; son, Ronald (Sherry), Halifax; granddaughters, Shay, Vancouver, Shanea, North Preston; grandsons, Otis, Montreal, Jermaine, Vancouver, Nashinka, Dominick, both of Halifax, Devon, North Preston; sisters, Josephine Johnson, Madge Simmonds, Alfreda Smith and Norma Downey, all of North Preston, brothers Roland (Sharon), Toronto; Morton (Delorise), Wayne (Donalda), both of North Preston; many nephews and nieces; sisters in-law, Mary and Helen Sparks, Lake Loon, Helen Sparks, Toronto; specials friends Lorna Mae Sparks, Jacqueline Beals; godchildren Viola Cain and Yvonne Cain. She was predeceased by daughter, Argarene; sons, Lionel, Morton, Derrick Ross; sisters, Suella, Madeline, Dorothy, Violet, Stella, Lena, Rita, Lillian and Rosella; brothers, Aubrey, Ralph, Robert, Eric, Stanford, James, Alfred, Bernard, Harold, Gordon; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held 7-9 pm Friday June 27, 2014, with a Funeral Service 1 pm Saturday June 28, 2014, both in Saint Thomas Baptist Church, North Preston, Reverend Wallace Smith officiating. Burial will be in Saint Thomas Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth.
