It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ernest William Isnor, known lovingly as Ernie or simply “Old Man”, on June 2, 2025, at Dartmouth General Hospital, surrounded by his devoted family. He was 76 years old.
Born on July 31, 1948, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Ernie was a man of few words but deep pride—especially when it came to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary; his sons Roger, Joey, David, and Brian; and his cherished daughter-in-law Rita. He also leaves behind his loving sister Connie Colford; grandchildren Stephen Isnor, Matthew Isnor, Brianna Isnor, and Logan Isnor; Cody Ramsay and Joey Ramsay; and great-grandchildren Sophia Ramsay and Harper Ramsay.
He was predeceased by his parents, Howard and Mary Isnor, whose memories remained dear to him throughout his life.
Ernie loved being surrounded by family and friends. He had a remarkable memory—he never forgot a name, no matter how many people passed through his life. Though quiet by nature, he wore his pride for his family in every gesture. He especially loved fishing, even if the fish weren’t always cooperative. He often joked that he had better luck remembering names than getting a fish on his hook.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, humility, and steady presence. His family will remember him as a kind and reliable man with a big heart, who may not have said much—but always made you feel seen.
A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor on July 17th 2025 between 6:00-8:00pm at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home with a family Graveside service at a later date
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you spend time with your loved ones—perhaps even drop a line in the water—and remember Ernie in your own special way.
