

HACKETT, GERALD RAYMOND “GERRY” With greatest sadness the family of Gerald Raymond “Gerry” Hackett of Bedford, Nova Scotia announce his passing on 3 August, 2015 in the Halifax Infirmary after a brief and brave fight to a rare disorder. In the few days after diagnosis, Gerry’s optimistic strength and unflinching charismatic sense of humour were solace to his family and friends. Born September 3, 1958, on School Street, Middleton, Nova Scotia, he was the son of the late James Donald “Don” and the late Kathleen Leona “Kaye” (White) Hackett of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Gerry was the youngest of six children. He loved to travel and enjoyed the people and places while working in the moving industry, first as a truck driver for 11 years before becoming Operations Manager of Hoyts Moving and Storage for four years and then 17 years as Manager of Hoyts Specialty Services. Gerry is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Jennifer (MacLean) Hackett, his cherished daughter, Sarah Dawn Hackett of Bedford, NS and like a son Brandon Fralick; and his beloved siblings, sister, Eileen (George) Kowalski, Ottawa, ON; brothers, Richard of Dartmouth, NS, Jim (Lorraine) of Eastern Passage, NS, Mike (Elaine) of Dartmouth, NS; nieces and nephews, David (Christine), Mark (Sonia), JD (Kristin), Samantha (Richard), Melanie, Michael (Laura), Craig (Janna) and Kyle (Candis); and great nieces and nephews, Gracie, RJ, Nathan, Max, Rayah, Payton and Connor. Besides his parents, Gerry was predeceased by an infant sister, Edith Anne. Visitation will take place at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, NS on Thursday, August 6 from 4-7pm. Funeral Service Friday at 10:30 am at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, 216 School Street, Dartmouth, with Rev. Dr. P.A. McDonald officiating.
