

BURTA, Gloria Cleophus— 74, Dartmouth. It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, Gloria, on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, in her home. Born in Glace Bay, she was a daughter of the late James and Maria (Boone) Thomas. Gloria was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church; past president and life-time member of the Centennial branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. She is survived by her sons, Eugene (Shirleon), Gerard (Janet); daughters, Theresa (Rev. Mr. Gordon) MacKinnon, Thelma, with whom she resided; Lisa (Paul) Soloymn and Michele (Robert) Steward; brothers, Pete, Mark, Jimmy, Aubrey and Terry; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Michael; brothers, Sandy and Bill; sisters, Rosie MacKenzie and Elizabeth MacNeil. Visitation will be held today from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 337 Pleasant St., Dartmouth. Funeral mass will take place at 11 a.m., Friday, September 25, also in Immaculate Conception Church, Father Jim Richards presiding, assisted by Deacon Gordon MacKinnon. Reception to follow in the parish hall. Interment in Dartmouth Memorial Gardens on Saturday, September 26, at 10 a.m. Arrangements under the direction of A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home. The family would like to thank Betty from Moffats Pharmacy, Dr. F. Moriarty and Gloria's parish family for their love and support over the years.
