
BLAIR, Henry - 93, of Dartmouth passed on June 29, 2015 at the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born in Bedlington, Northumberland, England on November 2, 1921, he was the son of the late Henry and Alice (Bell) Blair. During WWII, Henry served as a Sub-Lieutenant with the Royal Naval Reserves and in the North Atlantic, the Pacific and Far East theaters. Henry, his wife Kathleen and son Stuart, immigrated to Canada in 1947. Shortly after arrival in Canada, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served in the Korean conflict and in a number of peacetime roles. After a medical discharge he was employed as the Chief Engineer at the Nova Scotian Hotel. After a number of years in that position, he joined Durham Leaseholds and was involved in the construction of the Royal Bank building, the CIBC building and Barrington Place. Upon completion of these buildings he became the Chief Engineer for these buildings and later became the Property Manager for the Royal Bank building. Following retirement, he volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross, was a member and past President of the Woodlawn Kiwanis. Henry enjoyed dancing, golf, bowling and travel. Henry was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (O’Donnell) and infant brother, John. He is survived by his sons, Stuart (Carol), Grand Pre, N.S., Jeffrey (Pamela), Port Hardy, B.C. Grandchildren Craig (Janna), Christopher (Nicola), Jan Loner (Darren), Ryan and nine great grandchildren. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 4:00pm on Sunday, July 5, 2015 with a memorial service at 11 am on Monday, July 6, 2015 both in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street. Family flowers only, donations may be made in Henry’s memory to the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia.
