

Nelson (nee Sparks), Hilda Miriam – 86; born in Cherry Brook, NS on Mar 11, 1926 to the late Dea. James Arthur Sparks and the late Marjorie (Grant) Sparks; passed away peacefully at Bisset Court Nursing Home on Feb 17, 2013. She worked at the Nova Scotia Hospital. and the Hfx Co. Hospital. for over 30 years as a Nurse’s Aide and retired in 1987. She loved to volunteer in many ways and was a member of the WMS and LA at C.B.U.B.C. She was a former associate member of Cornwallis St. Baptist Church and Helping Hand Soc. in Hfx, and WMS at Victoria Rd. Baptist Church in Dartmouth. In 2005, Hilda was honored by the Cherry Brook LA and the Women’s Institute for 50 years of dedicated service. Hilda is survived by daughters Selita James, ON; Jacqueline Sparks, Cole Hbr; Pamela Suttle, NS; grandchildren Jerome Sparks, Cole Hbr; Colin James, Taiwan; Glena James, ON; Lori (David) Pinsent, Sackville; Joel James, ON; five great-grandchildren; sisters Thelma Phillips and Genevieve Halcrow, Dart; Phyllis Colley, East Preston; Lou May Young, Hfx; Margaret Bedford, ON; brothers Carl and Dea. Ralph Sparks, Cherry Brook; Foster Sparks, AB; Dea. William Downey, Hfx; aunt Mabel Sparks, Cherry Brook and three Godchildren. She was predeceased by her husband George Nelson, step-mother Pearl (Grant-Downey) Sparks and several brothers and sisters. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth, NS. Visitation will take place on Thursday Feb 21, 2013, family visitation at funeral home 2-4pm, community visitation at C.B.U.B.C. 7-8:30pm. All Baptist Churches ladies groups welcome to participate at 7:30pm. Funeral service will be at 2pm Friday Feb 22, 2013 at Cherry Brook United Baptist Church, Rev. W. Desmond officiating.
