June 24, 1917 – January 29, 2016
At the age of 98 died peacefully in St. Vincent’s Nursing Home, Halifax, N.S. Born in Montreal, Que., Isabel was the daughter of the late Katherine Melrose (Shannon) and John Alan Fletcher. She was predeceased by her loving husband Harry in 2011 and by her brother Grant in 2001. She will be greatly missed by her daughter, Donna (Denis Riordan), sister-in-law Margaret (Charles Stuart), many beloved nieces and nephews, and the Riordan family. Isabel was active in Symphony Nova Scotia’s Women for Music and was an Honorary Life Member of the Women of Rotary, Rotary Club of Halifax. She was an avid reader, bridge player, pianist and needle worker who dealt with the loss of her eyesight with patience and dignity. In spite of her limited vision, she and Harry shared many happy hours cheering on the Yankees and the Blue Jays. Even in her final years, she retained her wry sense of humour, and loved to share a laugh with family, friends, and caregivers. Special thanks to the compassionate and caring staff of St. Vincent’s Nursing home. Cremation has taken place. A service and reception to celebrate Isabel’s life will be held in Bethany United Church, 7171 Clinton Ave., 19 February at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Vincent’s Nursing Home or to Bethany United Church.
