It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother Marlene on January 28, 2024. The daughter of the late Harold and Elizabeth (Bessie) Shrum. A longtime resident of Dartmouth (Woodlawn) she was a caring friend and familiar smiling face to many in the community.
Her good humour, and ability to listen and laugh served her well during her 37 years working in blood collection between the Dartmouth General and Halifax Infirmary hospitals. Marlene’s spirit, energy, and enthusiasm took her on many travels. She loved playing cards with friends and family and enjoyed crafting – from knitting to stitching. She was always willing to try something new and met life’s challenges head on. Her kindness and generosity often found her inviting others into her home as family and she always ensured they felt welcomed and at home. She was the heart of any gathering. Her warmth and ability to connect with those around her will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her life partner Malcolm (Schofield), sons James (Miho), Duane (Jennifer), brothers Wayne (Diane), and Alan, sisters Glenis, June, Sharon (Gus), Helen, and grandson Mason who she loved dearly. She is predeceased by brothers Donald, Harold, Victor, and Kenneth, and sister Betty.
Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday February 9, 2024 at Woodlawn United Church in Dartmouth.
Family flowers only, please. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Canada and Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia.
