Hi I’m Marshall C. Spears, let me tell you a little bit about my wonderful life…..I passed away June 29, 2016 on a rainy day surrounded by my loving family at the QEII, my life was anything but dreary like the day I passed. I spent a wonderful life with the love of my life Kathleen (Dwyer) Spears. Boy, the night I saw her at that dance, I knew we would be dancing the rest of our lives together. What fun we had for 54 years, she was the best wife and mother. We were blessed with three beautiful girls, Bonita (Judy) Spears, Deborah(Kevin) Hurley, Maryann(Scott) Ritcey and then we were lucky to have five special grandchildren to enrich our lives with love and laughter; Brittany, Zachary, Sarah-Anne, Carter and Camaron. Being the middle of two brothers, Morley (Elizabeth) and Glendon (Linda) I always had someone to talk to and have fun with. Graduating from Halifax Vocational School in 1959 was the beginning of my long career. I proudly spent forty-two years working for Irving Oil in the propane business, starting out as a service man, but over the years gaining more knowledge and becoming a Branch Manager. It was a great career, although I was challenged the night the plant was on fire and I had to climb the burning hot tank to shut off the valve to avoid an explosion from destroying the Fairview part of Halifax. Scary yes; hence the reason I was celebrated at the Government House with a Medal of Bravery. What a proud day!!! Over the years we enjoyed lots of time camping with friends both with our trailer and our cottage in Lake Charlotte, oh what a time we would have laughing, square dancing and enjoying lots of great bonfires with all of you....my fabulous friends. No doubt you all know how much I loved to spend time in my garden growing vegetables and beautiful flowers, oh how I loved those Gladiolas and Dahlias. Becoming known as the "Rhubarb Man" of Mineville brought many hours of joy and relaxation for me, it really never was work for me! I know your lives are all busy as you start your summer vacation, but I would really like to invite you to come and celebrate my life on July 5th at 1:00 pm wearing the colours of your favourite flower at the Woodlawn United Church, Rev. Holly Edsall officiating, where we can reflect and enjoy some final time together!!! Of course there will be a reception to follow at the Church where we can all enjoy some of my favorite sandwiches and treats....It should be a great party!! Come and share your stories with my family and friends at A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home on Portland Street Monday, July 4th from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm.

P.S. Yes, I love my flowers, but in lieu of all those flowers why don't we all help those suffering with a heart condition like I did for all those years and make any donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Online condolences may be viewed or sent to: www.mattatallfuneralhome.com
