Patrick Michael Benoit

BENOIT, Patrick Michael – 65, of Halifax, passed away after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer due to complications after the surgery on December 6, 2021. He was born on February 13, 1956 in Port au Port East Newfoundland to the late Dennis “Nishie” and Emma (Emberley) Benoit. Patrick graduated from Maria Regina high school, then trade school later and when he became a scallop fisherman and second engineer for 43 years. The last six years he was as a resident manager in which he did his job wonderfully and made numerous friends along the way. When he was off the boat he loved watching all sports especially hockey, football, baseball and curling. If grass growing was a sport he would’ve been totally into that. He always had a great time hunting. He loved spending time with his family, friends and he had a very close special bond with Bryden and Cassius his grandsons he always loved carrying on with them and yes spoil them rotten. He was a very kind giving, loving partner to his wife Debbie as well as an amazing father to their kids Ashley, Emma and Micheal. He will always be remembered as papa and if you’ve seen papa he was surely to be in front of a barbeque. His hobbies were watching sports going for walks barbecuing listening to country music playing darts belonging to the 180 club numerous years in a row. He also found a relatively new hobby and that was cruising we enjoyed all the adventures those cruises took us on. He raised a lot of money constantly for food banks veterans and legions. He always enjoyed making his homemade seafood chowder to share with all his family and friends. He is survived by his Best friend, travel buddy, accountant and loving and caring wife of 31 years Debby Meekison of Halifax, daughters; Ashley Meekison (Josh) Lunenburg, Emma Benoit (Michael) Lunenburg, Sonya Benoit, Alberta, his son; Darrell Benoit (Tracy) Newfoundland, his brother; Rick (Melanie) Vancouver, his sisters; Margie (Bill) Chilton, BC., Wanda (Frank) Russell, Newfoundland, Tina Benoit and Carl O’Quinn Newfoundland, Leanne Benoit and Aaron Douglas Halifax, nephews; Trevor Derek Leon Brandon, nieces Tara Fleurette and Ashley, his grandchildren; Bryden, Cassius, Michael, Patrick, Reilly and Christian. He was predeceased by his sons; Micheal Gordon Meekison and Sean Patrick Benoit. A private celebration of life service will be held in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home. A very special thank you to Dr. Walsh and his entire team they tried so very hard as well as all the nurses on 6B step down and ICU. As well as Dr. Oluyemisi Ogunnaike (Dr.Yemi). For always keeping us informed and sane.
