

MacPhee, Peter R. – 64, of Dartmouth. It is with heavy hearts that the family of Peter MacPhee announce his sudden passing in Middleton on January 25, 2011. Born in Halifax, Peter was the son of the late Russell Malcolm “Buss” and Ella Elizabeth “Bill” (Miller) MacPhee. Peter was employed for 30 years with Bell Aliant (formerly MT&T), starting from high school as an installer and working his way into several managerial positions throughout his career culminating as a Manager of Marketing. In retirement, he worked for many years with Roger Surette at Golf Central in Corporate Sales. A natural and gifted athlete, Peter excelled in hockey, baseball, football, Nova Scotia Senior ‘A’ fastball and ultimately in the sport of curling. Peter’s successes and contributions to curling have no equal. He was a six time Nova Scotia Men’s Curling Champion, a two time Nova Scotia Senior Men’s Curling Champion, a two time Nova Scotia Men’s Masters Champion and a Nova Scotia Senior Mixed Champion, 1974 Nova Scotia and Maritime Junior Champion. Peter was the first male inductee as an individual into the Nova Scotia Curling Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a former President of the Dartmouth Curling Club and member of the Board of the Brightwood Golf and Country Club. Known for his organizing skills and passion for the sport of curling, Peter was Ice Chairman for the 2010 Tim Hortons Brier in Halifax and current Chairman of the Organizing Committee for next week`s Nova Scotia Men`s Curling Championship being held at the Dartmouth Curling Club. Peter was a certified Level 2 Curling Coach and his technique, style and input were influential in many junior curling team`s successes. Peter enjoyed the game of golf and the companionship with his friends at Brightwood and the golf excursions to Florida. His hole-in-one this past season at his home course was an exciting moment for him and his buddies on that special day. Peter is survived by his wife and soulmate, D. Louise (Griffin) and son and best friend, William (Bill) Ross MacPhee; sister, E. Alice Mombourquette (Cliff), Stewiacke, NS; many sisters and brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 30 from 1-4 pm at A.L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth, NS. Funeral Service will held at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, School Street, Dartmouth at 1 pm on Monday, January 31, 2011. Reception to follow at the Brightwood Golf and Country Club. Internment at a later date at Pine Grove Cemetery, Stewiacke East. Family flowers only.
