

SHORT, Reginald Howe— 81, Dartmouth, passed away unexpectedly in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII on December 3, 2009. Born in Halifax on December 10, 1927, he was a son of the late William P. and Bertha L. (Blakeney) Short. A long-time resident of Dartmouth, he retired after a successful career with Maritime Tel & Tel. He always enjoyed getting together with his fellow Telephone Pioneers. He was active within his church community, and was a member of First Baptist Church, Dartmouth. Reg was proud to follow the family tradition of attending Berwick United Church Camp. Some of his fondest memories were of time spent at the family cottage in Seafoam, Pictou Co. Above all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by Betty (McPhee), his wife of 55 years; daughter, Carolyn (John) Markotich, Shelburne; son, Bill (Margaret), Dartmouth and his grandchildren, Chris, Scott and Breanne Markotich, Luke and Katherine Short; brothers, Ken (Thelma), Toronto, Ont.; Bob (Betty), Bedford; sister, Barbara (Howard) Rossiter, Halifax; cousins, nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4, 7-9 p.m. on Monday, December 7 in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland St., Dartmouth. Memorial service will take place Tuesday, December 8 at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church, 100 Ochterloney St., Dartmouth. Reception following in the church. Private family committal.
