

TIVEY, Trevor - 89, of Dartmouth, died January 9, 2017 in Dartmouth General Hospital. He was the husband of Marguerite Tivey (nee Langtry). The son of Joseph and Blanche Tivey, he was born in Plymouth, England in 1927 and graduated from Public Central High School in Plymouth. Trevor began his career as an apprentice telephone engineer before joining the Royal Navy in 1947. He served for 22 years in the Royal Navy as a radio engineer before retiring as a Chief Petty Officer and going to work for the Meteorological Office in Bracknell, England. In 1975, with his background in radio engineering and offshore experience Trevor was hired by Hermes Electronics of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia to work on their marine buoy program. In 1981, he joined IMP as a senior avionics engineer and worked on upgrading electronics and control systems of many types of aircraft for the Canadian Armed Forces and Coast Guard, most notably Sea King helicopters. He retired from IMP in 1992. Trevor was a member of the Freemason’s Woodlawn Lodge #131 of Dartmouth and Virgin Lodge of Halifax. Trevor was a Past Master of both Virgin and Woodlawn Lodge. Trevor is survived by his loving wife, Marguerite of 61 years, his sons Maurice (Margaret) of Falmouth, Massachusetts, David (Anne) of Calgary, Alberta and Geoffrey (Deanne) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; by his grandchildren Trevor, Kristen and Devin; by his sister Christina Jewell of Tunbridge Wells, England, and by his many nieces and nephews back in England. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Sunday January 15, at 3:00 pm in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth followed by a reception.
