He proudly served in the US Air Force for four years during Vietnam era. He was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska as a fire fighter and EMT. This time reflected his dedication and love for his country.
He was also a devoted fisherman, a lover of the water, and a man whose soul was forever tied to the rhythm of the waves.
He found his greatest peace at sunrise, casting a line into still waters, and his greatest joy in the simple beauty of nature. Whether on a quiet lake or out on open water, fishing wasn’t just a hobby, it was a way of life. He cherished early mornings, the stories shared with friends, and the patience and perseverance the sport taught him.
Known for his kind spirit and endless supply of fishing tales, he brought warmth and laughter to those around him. He had a way of making everyone feel welcome, whether teaching a child to bait a hook or swapping stories of “the one that got away.”
Beyond the water, he was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, remembered for his generosity, wisdom, and appreciation for life’s simple moments.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda Haas; his daughters, Karen (Brian) Strusz and Kristin (Jim) West; his cherished grandchildren, Maddy (Mark) Wells, Jack (Taylor) West, Megan Strusz, and Brady West; and his siblings, Don, Charlie, Bruce, Paul, and Denise. Allen was very excited that Jack & Taylor are welcoming a baby in September making him a great grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Marvella Haas.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family to support Rock Steady Boxing, an organization he loved, which supports Parkinson patients. Please share condolences with the family at www.rungemortuary.com
We invite you to think of him the next time you see a peaceful lake, feel the morning sun, or hear the gentle ripple of water—because that’s where he was always happiest.
